presenting....The Heavenly Thrillbillies

BLUEGRASS boys are keeping traditional music from the American south alive – in their own backyard.
The Heavenly Thrillbillies are a three-piece band dedicated to performing bluegrass.
Playing double bass, banjo and guitar, they evoke the sounds of American musical legends such as Hank Williams, The Soggy Bottom Boys, Jimmie Rodgers and Flatts and Scruggs.
The band is made-up of David 'Kid Kentucky' Reed, originally from Devonshire Street, Tyne Dock, South Shields, Garry 'Jumpin' Jack' Brewis, from Newcastle, and Philip 'Crazy Fingers' Wynn, from Sunderland.
All three members have worked the pubs and clubs around the region for many years, playing all sorts of styles from new wave to rock.
But now they are dedicated to bringing bluegrass to the masses with a series of gigs locally.
Kid Kentucky, guitarist and vocalist, said: "We are all over 40 and we have known each other for 30 or more years, and ended up realising we had a desire to play bluegrass.
"We initially began rehearsing at home, just for the fun of it but soon became obvious that what we were playing was, in our opinion, not merely for bluegrass enthusiasts, and almost anyone could enjoy what we were playing."
Any music lovers who catch up with the band are in for a few surprises.
The boys like adding a few unusual choices to their set, including Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody – played bluegrass-style!
He said: "We try to do traditional stuff with a pinch of new stuff too. We're working on a lot of other surprises."
